Australia Day is a Darling of a day this year
Darling Harbour is the family-friendly venue for Australia Day in
Sydney this year. The popular harbour-side locality will be alive with
free music, kids entertainment, family activities, and fireworks, for Australia Day Darling Harbour.
Darling Harbour will also host great Australia Day events like the MS
Colour Run, The Big Issue Street Football Festival's junior competition
and the Waves of Migration light show at the Australian National
Maritime Museum.

Main Program
Entertainment will be provided on 3 special stages for the day.
The Kids Stage at Village Green, Darling Quarter will be hosted, appropriately, by kids favourite, Jay Laga'aia. Action kicks off at 11.25 am and continues until 3.55pm with acts such as Amazing Drumming Monkeys and Leo the Clown.
The World Music Stage will be at Palm Grove from 12.25pm until 6pm with entertainment form Circle of Rhythm, Jimmy D's Arabic Band and Caribbean Soul, among others.
The lineup for the Street Music Stage at Harbourside Amphitheatre includes the Polski Ogorki Trip, Loren Kate and Rusty Spring Syncopators, and runs from 1pm until 4pm.
Australia Day Spectacular
When the sun goes down the party really begins, lighting up the popular Cockle Bay area from 7pm until 9pm. At 7pm NSW Governor, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir will sail into Cockle Bay on the Admiral's Barge. She will deliver the Australia Day address and will be followed by Deputy Premier (and an old work colleague of mine), The Honourable Andrew Stoner. There will be a parade of Sydney Harbour vessels and then the stately appearance of the tall ships. The finale will of course be the inevitable pyrotechnics display from 8.45pm.
MS Colour Run 2013
This is your chance to get colourful, have fun and raise money for those living with multiple sclerosis. This event is part of the official program of Australia Day events. You can choose to just watch the colourful show or join in the 5 kilometres of running fun where you'll be showered in rainbow dust. The fun begins at 9am and course information will be released soon.
You can enter online here, join a team or donate online here or learn about fundraising here. Entry will set you back $40 for adults, $25 for children between 6 and 16, or $100 for a family.
The Big Issue Street Football Festival's junior competition
The Big Issue Street Football Festival is a bit of a misnomer this year. There won't be action on the streets but on a giant floating pitch in Darling Harbour instead. The competition runs from 18 to 28 January, but on Australia Day you can see the participants in the junior competition from 9am to 11.30am. It's free to attend.
Waves of Migration light show
The Waves of Migration light show will premiere on Australia Day with an animated light projection of migration stories over the sail-like roofline of the Australian National Maritime Museum. Learn the stories of those who have come to Australia. The projection will then show every evening until 17 February.
