Two weeks of free kids' films
After the excitement of Christmas, it always seems like a long stretch
till school starts again. However, for two weeks in January you can
attend the Little Darlings NIGHT OWLS Kids Film Fest and have a fun
evening out with your children.
Beginning on Monday January 7 and ending on Tuesday January 22, the outdoor event starts at 6.00pm each night, with kid-friendly feature films screened at 6.45pm. It will be taking place in the Village Green precinct in Darling Quarter (in Darling Harbour). You can watch every screening for free and should bring a rug and a picnic to make the most of your evening.
The film festival will feature both classic and new films, ranging from the original Muppet Movie and Spielberg's E.T to modern favourites like Finding Nemo, Wall-E and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
For the adults, there will be special screenings after the main
feature films on Friday and Saturday nights, when you can watch
Chocolat, The Artist, Casablanca, and Cinema Paradiso.
Those who have attended before will notice a new element - fifteen-minute screenings of short films before the main presentation. These films are all from the Little Big Shots festival (which is an international film festival for kids kids aged 2 to 15).
Sunday January 20 will be a particularly special evening. Little Big Shots will be holding a 90-minute screening of their best films, such as the critically-acclaimed British animated short, The Gruffalo's Child (a trailer for the film can be found on YouTube). Festival Director Ben Laden will open the night and host a Q&A session after the presentation.
The Darling Quarter is accessible via train, bus, ferry, lightrail and monorail. You can find specific instructions for each of these travel options here, including which stops to get off at depending on which direction you are coming from.
